The question though is whether the hardware is acting in it's design parameters or not.
If a verified hard disk doesn't work with Linux but DOES work with windows on his gear then he might simply have a device that contains some new disk chipset that he can file a bug on and a developer can look into.
If it works with Linux on his gear then his original disk has a problem.
If neither windows or Linux work then maybe some other part is bad.
