Hard Disk Partition&Make File System Problem
I have ST36422A (SeaGate)hard disk,and my machine is celeron333a(it's old i know) 64M ram.When i try to partiton the harddisk to Linux with fdisk (or cfdisk ,the result no differ) from the install cd boot,and then mke2fs (-j)
to make the file system,it always fail.
Sometimes just after made file system, i cant mount the new partiton which just formated by mke2fs,it show such message:
EXT2-fs error (device ide0 (3,3)):ext2_check_descrptors:Block bitmap for group 13 not in group (block 393222)!
or: mount: wrong fs type bad potion,bad superblock on /dev/hda3,or too many mounted file systems
Sometimes even not make file system,if i check the partition table with fdisk /dev/hda -l,some partition not proberly ,it show like this under certain linux partition:
phys=(999,254,58) logical=(376,254,63) ..cylinder boundary
i haven't written down the complete message,it just said phys and logical not with the same ending,and ending beyond cylinder boundary.
Sometimes,i successfully mounted the ext2/3 partition ,in gentoo install,
when install stagex(1,2,3 all tried) in middle of the progress ,it failed,
show not such dirctory or no space.
I have tried Gentoo Linux and Slackware Linux,the error just same;
and tried Freebsd ,its label editor cant enable the swap partition(i have installed Freebsd at the same machine before ,no the problem) so installation always fail.
i'd like thx who can help with any usefull information!

I think that your problem is that you have a bad partition table. You may have to use fdisk and delete all of your partitions and then build your partition table again. Of course, before you try this you should back up all of your data because recreating your partition table will probably lose all of your data.

I don't know. Could you post the entire message that you get from fdisk /dev/hda -l
Also how big is your ST36422A (SeaGate)hard disk?
