definately a fasle hope if the hard drive is physically broken....

if it will spin up then you might be able to recover something....

Put it in a sealed plastic bag and put it in your fridge for a while.

Quickly take it out and plug it in and fire it up, hopefully you'll have enough time to use knoppix to recover the files before it warms up and begins to fail again.

Unless as satinet says is physically broken.

i've also just had the notion of using a cooling brick, you know the ones in cool boxes, sitting on top of it while it's running... :-D

anyway, i think you'll find that if it got hot enough to stop working, that it is totally borked, so to speak.......

As your hard disk is over heated. Its a pysical problem, you need a <spam>

Send your overheated SATA drive to India's No 1 <spam>

<spam> provide effective data recovery services providing free evaluation of the drive. They DO NOT CHARGE if they do not recover your data from hard drives.

I used their data recovery services when my hard disk get disturbed due to fire, it was fully burnt. My friend recommend me the name <spam> and I try it and BINGO!!!, My hard disk is now in good working condition and i get all my pictures , files, music files back.

Really a great piece of software.

thanks

That forms a contradictio-in-terminus.

As you don't have backups, the files were obviously not important.

And indeed, shop around for a professional data recovery company if the cooling tips don't work.
