We had a Dell 2650 with a power vault 220s running in Linux Red Hat version 2.1AS and the kernel 2.4.9-e.34smp. In the machine we have installed Oracle 9i this is our data base.
Now each month we need to restart the server because it is freeze, and show the error in /var/log/message.

Looks like you are right. It is a hard disk error.
Use "fdisk" with the option "-cc" which is safe to data.
Of course, the filesystem must be umounted. It will take several hours, so schedule it to run at weekend.
You can inspect the health and get additional info of the disk using the smarttools. You must have S.M.A.R.T. enabled in the BIOS.
We've got Gold support on our servers and just the other day we had an IO error on one of the drives in our RAID 5 array. Dell sent out a replacement drive within 4 hours!!!
