handspring treo usb

Has anybody had any luck syncing a handspring treo with linux? If so how did you do it? The only info I found that is close is the Visor how-to, but haven't had much luck w/ that.

I'd like to use the USB cable, but I also have a serial IR receiver so maybe that'd be easier?

thanks in advance.

I have the Palm m105, which has a serial cradle. It's an easy matter of installing jpilot and selecting the right port that the cradle is attached to. I don't know if there is a problem with the USB cradle for the Treo though, but I would suspect that all you need do is point the port connection to the USB port, assuming you have USB working in your distribution.

Kpilot works as well, but I don't think it's as nice.

treo via usb

Ylar,
I am currently in the middle of trying to get my Treo to Sync using USB but so far have had no luck. I've been working on this occasionally over the last week or so...so far no luck.

I am using Jpilot .99.3 and pilot-link .11.5
(jpilot.org and pilot-link.org)

from what I read, it should work this way and when I configured jpilot it did say that USB support was enabled.....but I don't think I have my usb drivers set up correctly...among other things. Although I've been using linux for over a year now...I am still a complete newbie. (I suppose I just suck)

If I figure this out I will let you know. Just wanted to let you know there was someone else out there trying to solve the same problem. I actually found your post because I was looking for the same answers you're looking for.

Good Luck...and hopefully you'll here back from me soon with positive reults.

USB Doesn't seem to be supported for Treo 300

Ylar,
I've come up empty. I tried using the visor driver but it wouldn't work for USB. It does work however for a standard serial cable. (i got one on ebay for $11).

again...as in my previous post, i'm using jpilot and pilot-link.

You may be able to look around and find that your IR device will work. I don't have one and haven't looked into it.

I would say you may be able to find this information just doing a search somewhere.

Here is some of the data I have found that finally made me give up on finding a USB driver for the Treo 300:

You were mistaken, sorry, the visor driver does not currently support
this device.

The Treo 90 and 300 do not currently work with the Linux visor driver,
sorry. A few people are working on fixing this, but the only patch I've
seen is for a very old 2.4 kernel. The authors of that are working on
fixing it up for inclusion with the main kernel tree.

2、どうやらHandspring純正のシリアルケーブルでjpilotとsyncできるらしい!
(ということはpilot-link系もOK?試したいっ!)

I've picked up Handspring's serial cable, and jpilot syncs up perfectl
with the Treo now. icon_smile.gif

Thanks for responding Eric. I knew I wasn't the only one out there looking for a solution, but hadn't had much luck in finding anything online either pro or con. Until this week this was the only usb device I had, so I was spinning my wheels trying to see if my usb was the problem, but it works fine w/ my new camera.

I'll probably end up waiting till a new module is available and continue to use windows for syncing for now. On the other hand, since the serial cable works, I'll think about getting one.

No luck at all with the IR. I haven't had much time to play with it and don't really know what I'm doing anyway.

Thanks again. I'll keep trying.

Smashing my brains out on this one myself... I've compiled the modules and lsmod'ed them with no problem. If I attempt to hotsync, dmesg gives me this:

usb.c: registered new driver serial
usbserial.c: USB Serial support registered for Generic
usbserial.c: USB Serial Driver core v1.4
usbserial.c: USB Serial support registered for Handspring Visor
usbserial.c: USB Serial support registered for Palm 4.0
usbserial.c: USB Serial support registered for Sony Clié 3.5
usbserial.c: USB Serial support registered for Sony Clié 4.0
visor.c: USB HandSpring Visor, Palm m50x, Sony Clié driver v1.5
hub.c: USB new device connect on bus1/1, assigned device number 34
usb.c: USB device 34 (vend/prod 0x82d/0x200) is not claimed by any active driver.
usb.c: USB disconnect on device 34

If I get it working, you'll know it.

Treo270

I've gotten my Treo270 to link with Linux using Jpilot.

Issues were:

1.getting it to find the Treo using a USB connection on /dev/pilot -- this worked smoothly with Mandrake 8.2 after pressing the Sync button on the Treo before starting up Jpilot.

2. Null User ID -- you have to set a user ID for the Treo using install-user (type install-user from a shell prompt to get a help message).

3. getting Jpilot to find the Treo: you have to press the Sync button on the Treo just BEFORE pressing Sync on Jpilot. Then the two should find each other.

In short, it is possible.

Hello adamsanitt,

I am trying to follow your instructions but I am having a little difficulty.

I am running Mandrake 9.0 and I would like to sync my Treo with my machine. Can you give a step by step on how to accomplish this? As you said in your post.. it is possible. But I keep getting various error messages and I cant seem to get /dev/pilot to appear.

Thanks
