hacking my playstaion 2 hd

hello. im not sure if anybody has checked this out yet, but www.hdloader.com sells a product that has the ability to copy games directly to the playstations hard drive. im not here to discuss the ethics about this but actually had a different question.

i like to play a game called tony hawks underground. basicly the developers left 3 unfinished levels on the disk. other players online have gotten them on their disks by ripping them to their hard drives moving the files to a new location and reburning.

since i bought the HDloader i now have a copy of thug on my ps2's hard drive. unfortunatly this uses a propriatary filesystem called APA. i was wondering if anybody knows if theres a way i could read this filesystem on my linux machine. maybe i could read directly from the disk somehow and edit also?

just wondering if anybody has some suggestions. thanks. :)

You could put HDLoader on a Windows machine, copy the files, then copy the files from the Windows machine to your Linux box. I don't think Linux supports that FS, so unless HDLoader gets a Linux port, I think the first suggestion is all you can do. Of course, there might be an open-source driver somewhere on the net, but I don't know where. You can search for it (if you want) here:

Good Luck!

hmm maybe i missed something but im not sure what your getting at. i dont really care if i read the hd on a linux machine or a windows machine. your saying i should copy the files from the HDloader disk to my harddrive?

maybe i should explain how it works. really all you do is boot your ps2 with HD loader then put the game you want copied into your ps2. it then rips it to the playstations hard drive. i would like to edit the files it ripped if possible. :)

Oh now I get it (I don't have a PS2 :D). I wouldn't know how to do that, sorry.

I was wondering about something similar.

Is there any way to format a standard IDE HDD to whatever filesystem the PS2 uses? I want a HDD for my PS2, but I am not about to pay $100 for a 40GB HDD and a game I will never play (you can only buy the HDD with FFXI).

You can put any drive in the PS2, but it won't allow you to save games to it unless it is formated properly.
