GUI not displaying due to Processor and M/Board changes

I was running Fedora Core 4 (FC4) on an AMD ATHLON 2400MHz, I later changed to a P4, 2.2GHz; but the X-server didn't come up-I can't access GUI. How can I correct (re-configure) this for my new board?

Do you get to runlevel 1 or runlevel 3 so that you have a command line to work with?

If so, try to start the X server manually: startx. If that works without errors, then try startgnome or startkde.

If that gets you to GUI, you may be able to use FC4 configuration tools to redetect and reconfigure hardware.

Otherwise, make backups of /home, /root, and anything else you don't want to loose. Then re-install FC4. The installation process should detect the new hardware.
