gtkpod is not working with my Ipod shuffle

I am trying to connect my Ipod shuffle to my box. I am using ubuntu 5.04. I`ve installed gtkpod with synaptic but after various attemps I`m just receiving this message:

'/media/ipod/iPod_Control/iTunes/iTunesDB' does not exist. Import aborted.

Any idea?

Do you already have any music on your ipod. If not then you just have to add files and then sync and it will create the itunes.db file for you.

If you do already have music on the ipod then I would check and make sure the path it lists to your ipod device is correct.

A word of caution that may or may not be related to gtk-pod:

I once had a shuffle and tried to use it with gtk-pod, I was just trying to figure out how to use the program with the shuffle plugged, but when I was done, the shuffle was incommunicable. The restore software would not even recognize it and after a phone call to support, I ended up having to send it to Apple and they sent me a replacement.

I don't know if gtk-pod is responsible, but it happened right after I used it. I now have a 20 Gb iPod; I only use iTunes to update it.

Thanks a lot Niztec and Dubya,

Thank you for the answer and for the word of caution. I do not know what is happening. My Ipod is recognized by my box and my music too, but I'm not able to make it work.
I do not know also how can I be sure that the path is the right one. It seems to me that every thing in that sense is fine.

Today I was checking Music Player. This program also recognized my Ipod and the data but at the end not sound.

Anyway thank you again to your time...

I'll continue working on this...Any new idea will be welcome

The shuffle seems to be particularly recalcitrant with Linux. I have a 512MB shuffle and I'm unable to use *any* of the various Linux-iPod software to load songs onto it (GTKpod, yamipod, whatever.) I've searched the net pretty extensively and, as far as I can tell, no one has posted of a success story of using a shuffle with Linux (although many people are apple to use normal iPods, minis, and nanos.)

I agree with kungfuramone9.
I've bought an Ipod Shuffle to connect it to my linux box as I read on the net that all was fine with GtkPod.
I refer to How to iPod Shuffle.
The How to is well made but I never achieved mounting
correctly the ipod nor init it.
I eventually used itune on a winxp
If someone achieves using it on linux I'm interested.
I'm on a SuSE 9.1 and I've a brand new Shuffle 1Go.
