This IS what was wrong with the Grub interacting with the drive properly, so currently I am running Ubuntu 7.10. I do not know if I will keep Ubuntu, but the system now has a Linux on it. Ubuntu was the quickest and easiest to deal with for testing. Now to test different distros out. Thanks PTrenholme for you excellent diagnosis.
