Unhappy GRUB boot failure on IDE w/ 1 SATA Drive.

My boot sequence is normally DVD (to make GRUB work), GRUB, then into either Windows, or SuSE.

PROBLEM: My DVD drive (Toshiba SD-M1202) is beeing a bugger, and working (or even being registered by the BIOS) only when it wants to.

The box is as follows:

HDA: 20GB HDD---------(Windows 98SE, full FAT32, w/ GRUB)
HDB: The problem DVD drive
HDC: 80GB HDD---(20GB ext3 for SuSE 10.2, the rest FAT32)
HDD: CD burner--------(Aopen CRW2440)

SDA: 80GB SATA-------(Full FAT32)

Because I can't boot from the DVD, I can't boot without having the SATA controller (VIA VT8237R/R+) set to IDE mode, as opposed to RAID. Windows DOES NOT LIKE this setup, and it won't even go into "My Computer", if it even boots at all.

I have been using SuSE for about a month, now, but am already kinda skilled at, so if anyon can help, I would be most grateful.

Cable select.

On the IDE drive and cdroms, are you using the setting cable select, if so need to configure the jumpers accordingly.

Also is the via8237 contoller onboard or an add on card, just wan to know why you cannot boot sata

Yep, they are configured correctly, as shown above, and, no, the VT8237R/R+ is not an add-on card, it's on-board. The motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-K8VM800M, VIA chipset: 8VM800.
