Graphire 4 not using wacom driver on Suse 10.0 with kernel 2.6.14.21

hi im trying to get my tablet working in Suse 10. The issue is it is using usbhid as it's driver after i have complied and installed the wacom driver. Here is what i did:

1. downloasted the lastest stable version of the driver from the linux wacom project page.

2. .configured and made the programs and drivers needed according to the howto.

3. copied the drivers to the lib/modules/kernelversion/drivers/input or in the case of some of them /lib/modules/kernelversion/drivers/usb/inpu

4. used xxd and the /dev/input/ directory to see the raw data. it is event4 and mouse 2.

5. I messed with the xorg.conf as according to the howto to configure it for x and rebooted.

Some thing that i noticed but wasn't sure if it mattered was that the howto said it would be event0 and mouse0 but wherever they had event0 in the xorg.conf file i just changed it to event4. Also when i try to use the included wacomcpl it says "We didn't find a wacom device. Please make sure the device's type (stylus, eraser, or cursor)is embedded into its identifier string." Does it mean the string in the xorg.conf file? Does that give any clue why it isn't using the driver? Also could it be that SAX2 is configuring the tablet automatically and make sure SAX2 will just ignore the tablet? Im not sure what to do short of trying to install the driver again and hoping it goes better. thanks for any replies in advance.

I didn't see Suse 10 listed in the Success Stories of the linux wacom project page. Has anyone got the Graphire 4 working with the driver in Suse 10?
