First you want to boot to a console login instead of a graphic login, and you'll need to exit out of XFree86 to do this with <Ctrl>+<Alt>+<Backspace>, next you need to edit /etc/initab and change the default runlevel to what ever redhat uses for a console login - in slackware its 3 - once you've done this reboot and login as root, then do "xf86config", follow the prompts and see if that gets things going.
You may have to upgrade your kernel to get full support for this chipset, and upgrading to a newer version of redhat may be the best way for you to do this.
