graph a sata to slackware

hello,

i installed a new sata harddrive on to my system. The bios was able to pick it up, however my question is how can i tell if slackware realizes this new harddrive?(no file system on it yet) or a way to figure out if i need to recompile my kernel with sata drive support.

thanks,

djgerbavor3

try "hdparm -i /dev/hdb", where hdb is the secondary drive on the first ide cable. (it is ide isn't it?)

Sorry, I misunderstand - how exactly does a sata drive connect to your computer (d-type serial port?)... I'm probably not qualified to answer this as you can tell! Have you searched this forum first for clues?
You could try the command you mentioned but I don't recognise that device node.

Type dmesg. You should see your SATA hard drive listed some where in the dmesg logs. Usually SATA hard drives are at /dev/sda.../dev/sdz.
