gphoto2, gtkam mount as user!!
 

linux newbie, redhat 8 full install.

i have read through this forum and have had a lot of success in getting other things to work with advice from this site, but i cant seem to find the answer to this particular question.

i have been able to mount my camera - canon s230 as a usb - PTP compatable camera via command line and gtkam as ROOT, i cant get the permissions set for users to mount the camera. how is this accomplished. i have read the how tos, but as a newbie, i dont understand the whole usb permissions thing. all i want to do is give users the ability to access the camera, security for usb is not an issue for me.

i read on a Mandrake forum that they have a usb group, does redhat have this ability, i didnt see one.

Same camera, same problem. Ideally, I would like to be able to access the CF card as a harddrive. Let's keep eachother posted.


When I plug it in and turn on the power I get:

I know gphoto2 does not support this camera exactly, but i figured either the S200 or S300 would work.

Redhat 8.0 uses gphoto2 2.1.0 - 4

According to the gphoto website, however gphoto2 2.1.1 supports the wonderful little S230. Don't see any gphoto2 2.1.1 RPM's out these for Redhat (there are for Mandrake) for an upgrade and haven't had time to read if the INSTALL in the gphoto2 2.1.1 tar file to see if there is an upgrade option.

The other thing that needs to happen is that you have to mount /proc/bus/usb with the command (root) mount -t usbdevfs none /proc/bus/usb.

I am still trying to figure out how to automount at boot time. I have tried several suggest edits of /etc/fstab without success:(

Any suggestions or links to how to set up a fstab entry appreciated
