Gigabyte K8NSC-939 APIC boot problem

Hi Everyone,

I have a Gigabyte K8NSC-939 BIOS version F7 with a AMD64 3200+ 1 Gb of PC3200 memory. UMDA 160 Gb IDE drive. The only way I've been able to get it to boot Suse 10.0 x86_64 or FC4 x86_64 is using the "noapic nolapic" kernel options. The 32 bit version of either loads fine. Anyone else experienced this? Is this "normal" or is there a fix? Does the AMD PowerNow driver fix this problem?

Does anyone use a AMD64 X2 with this board? If so, how well does it work and what version BIOS are you using?

Thanks in advance.

Stan

I finally figure out what caused this problem. I was using single channel memory (1 DIMM). Once I put 2 DIMMS in the system so it had dual channel memory, the "noapic nolapic" options were no longer required. It looks like with a 64 bit OS, dual channel memory is needed.
