Gigabyte board/ Nvidia card = no video output

EVGA GTX 550 Ti
Gigabyte Z68MA-D2H-B3 rev 1.3 board
Intel i7 sandy, not the 'k' one
Viewsonic monitor w/ 1 DVI, 1 VGA input

Scenario:
Computer is off, video card in, DVI to monitor. Turn on computer, light on monitor stays orange. It never shows video. Hold down power switch to power off, take out video card, connect VGA from mobo to monitor. Power on pc, video is fine, boots to fedora. Try again with video card in and does not show video.

The video card fan spins. No video output with either DVI output. have not tried the mini-hdmi output as i don't have the adapter. Works fine when card is out of the machine and using integrated graphics with VGA.I've done the BIOS update, and made sure that the pci is enabled in bios. I took the video card to my friends computer and it works fine, so I thought it was my motherboard. Replaced mobo with ASUS and still had the same issue. I returned the ASUS and now back with Gigabyte. In my BIOS, it does not have the option to disable on-board graphics, it has:

Video.......Enable VGA if no PCI

To my knowledge, the mobo will (if set in bios) make the video card primary automatically. I think it is doing this, sort of. The reason I think this is because while the computer is on w/video card in (no video output showing on monitor) and I disconnect the dvi cable from vid card and connect a vga cable from mobo to monitor it will not show anything at all. Ive replaced the dvi cable but nothing.

Any suggestions?

What kind of power supply do you have? The minimum spec for that card is 400watts with 24A on the 12V rail.

I cant remember the model number right now (I'm at work), but its a Corsair 650 watts power supply

Look here for corsair_hx650w_650w_atx_psu
If the above is your PSU then 52A on that rail is more than enough to power your card.

Either your're got the wrong board, or you've got the wrong BIOS setting msg. It should be-

Onboard VGA- Enable if no External PEG / Always Enable.

With it set to 'Enable if no External PEG' it should use the PCIe video card if one is installed. Have you hooked up the 6-pin PCIe power connector to the card? Without it it may not start at all.

*edit and make sure you've got 'Init Display First' to 'PCIE X16' and the video card is installed in the PCIE X16 slot (its the one closest to the CPU socket).

The thing is I used to use this card with this board about a year ago. It worked fine before. The vid card is the right pci slot. yes the bios is already in those settings, the pci power is plugged in correctly, I've changed it out ruling that out.

Well, all I can think of is-

Try one of the other PCIe slots, and if possible try a different card in the X16 slot (and maybe I'd try in the other slots as well, depending on what hapens).
Go to intel video but leave the card in, then check lspci/lshw.

found that the DVI port on the monitor is bad and out of warranty....errr!!
