Hi

I have had this working on SuSE and Ubuntu. Just backup your xorg.conf file and then make the changes. That way you can revert back if it messes up. It does work nicely though...

In firefox's options click advanced >> general >> tick "use autoscrolling"

This will make firefox 2 work like IE when using the wheel as a button. This also worked on both distros for me...

Let us know if any of this helps or not so that others can know too.

Be sure I'll do that, as soon as I'll apply those changes.

Good thread. Incidentally, my SUSE 10.2 xorg.conf file looks different with an MX510 mouse in than the one reported earlier. Still, the general advice works fine. This is what my file looked like when I was done:

Section "InputDevice"
Driver "mouse"
Identifier "Mouse[1]"
Option "Buttons" "10"
Option "Device" "/dev/input/mice"
Option "Name" "Logitech USB-PS/2 Optical Mouse"
Option "Protocol" "explorerps/2"
Option "Vendor" "Sysp"
Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"
Option "ButtonMapping” “1 2 3 6 7 8 9 10”
EndSection

The line with ButtonMapping was the only thing I added. Nothing else changed.
