I downloaded hpijs-rss.ppd for my DeskJet 870Cxi. I don't know what to do with
it. How do I install a printer in Debian (cups) to use this driver? I tried http://localhost:631/ but when I add a printer it never asks what ppd to use so
I just select the HP printer driver offered and, of course, that doesn't work.
The printer I add is listed, but I get no output when attempting to print test
page. Please help! Thanks.

Nah, see, the problem is, when the cups configurator at localhost:631 runs, I can't figure out how to tell it to use the .ppd file I downloaded for my printer. Everything else is ready, I can send low level commands to /dev/lp0 and get output that way. Any other ideas?

How is the part of the printing guide that describes how to tell CUPS to use a specific PPD file not relevant to you?

I already knew about the .ppd file. Anyway, I got the thing working. Turns out the reason I couldn't get it setup properly was because the cups daemon was not started. I issued the command cupsys restart as root and everything worked perfectly. Sometimes Linux makes me feel so dumb...
Thanks for your help, cheers.
