Getting an external usb-cardreader to work

Hi , I'm having lots of trouble to get an usbcardreader to work

it is a sweex 6 in one cardreader ( see: http://www.sweex.com/product.asp?pid=98 )

When loading the usb-storage module and plugging in the cardreader this is what /var/log/messages says :

Sep 21 14:04:51 jingle kernel: Initializing USB Mass Storage driver...
Sep 21 14:04:51 jingle kernel: usbcore: registered new driver usb-storage
Sep 21 14:04:51 jingle kernel: USB Mass Storage support registered.
Sep 21 14:05:00 jingle kernel: usb 1-1: new full speed USB device using address 7
and no more ......

lsusb tells me :

Bus 001 Device 007: ID 0d8c:5000 C-Media Electronics, Inc.

cat /proc/bus/usb tells me this :

T: Bus=01 Lev=01 Prnt=01 Port=00 Cnt=01 Dev#= 6 Spd=12 MxCh= 0
D: Ver= 1.10 Cls=00(>ifc ) Sub=00 Prot=00 MxPS=64 #Cfgs= 1
P: Vendor=0d8c ProdID=5000 Rev= 1.00
S: Product=USB Card Reader
C:* #Ifs= 1 Cfg#= 1 Atr=80 MxPwr=500mA
I: If#= 0 Alt= 0 #EPs= 2 Cls=ff(vend.) Sub=ff Prot=ff Driver=(none)
E: Ad=81(I) Atr=02(Bulk) MxPS= 64 Ivl=0ms
E: Ad=02(O) Atr=02(Bulk) MxPS= 64 Ivl=0ms

I think here is my problem cause the driver says NONE
I've read in several forums and howto's that usb-mass-sorage devices are looked as like they are scsi devices , like sda1 to sda4 ( i have no other scsi devices )
But these are all invalid block devices when trying to mount them.

That's because there are no attached devices i guess

[root@jingle root]# cat /proc/scsi/scsi
Attached devices:
[root@jingle root]#

I think that when i get the driver NONE part fixed from cat /proc/bus/usb/devices that i wil get the thing working but i really need some help with that ,

Who Can help me ?

There is certainly something wrong. As you suggest, the USB storage driver is supposed to provide a SCSI interface like /dev/sda when the storage device is plugged in. Unless you are lucky enough to find someone with the same hardware, it's hard to go past the FAQs at

http://www.linux-usb.org/

Unfortunately there is also a possibility that it is just not linux compatible.

Hi,
I'm having the same problem, and my cardreader has the same Vendor & Product ID, but it's internal, on an ECS G900 notebook.
No solutions for me; I tried kernels 2.6.1x x=0,1,2,3 without success.
Infos on my reader in this other post:

Ciao, Leo
