Getting Adaptec 2904 scsi interface to work
I've just fitted an Adaptec 2904 scsi interface card into a spare pci slot & would like to use it to control a Sony DAT drive (connected to the 2904 as scsi target 2).
On re-boot I got the 'detected new hardware' screen as expected & let it do the configuration for me. It didn't report any problems & boot continued as normal.
My question now is: How do I get to use the DAT drive?
I've tried 'mt rewind' on just about every 'st' in the '/dev' directory & just get 'no such device' each time.
I'm running RedHat Linux 9 and 'uname -r' reports: 2.4.20-8
Doing '/sbin/lspci -v' gives lots of stuff including:
01:04.0 SCSI storage controller: Adaptec AHA-7850 (rev 03)
Subsystem: Adaptec AHA-2904/Integrated AIC-7850
Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 32, IRQ 11
I/O ports at c000 [size=256]
Memory at e8050000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=4K]
Capabilities: [dc] Power Management version 1
which I guess means that the card is being seen ok.
Is there something else I have to do in order to use this card?
Sorry if the answer is obvious - but I've never played with hardware in the Linux world before and reckon I've got a lot to learn.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
