Gentoo - AMD 64 install

I have a semi-working install of Gentoo for AMD64 on my system, but my friend and I are currently stumped as to the sound problems that are running. I have a SiS 755-A2 mb that has an integrated Realtek AC97 sound. The funny thing is that for a time the sound was working when it wasn't recognizing the soundcard for what it was -- now it recognizes it but it won't play any sound.

The only other problem we can find is grub being funky and not using the splash screen at startup but the sound is the bigger fish in need of frying right now. Thanks for any help. I want my speedy Linux running with sound.
