I have been having one heck of a problem getting nvidia going.2.4.26=no problem 2.6.7=no way 2.6.6=installed the 6106 everything seemed ok to test I ran glxinfo | grep direct and I recieve
Xlib: extention "GLX" missing on display ":0.0" the splash screen come up and everything?thanks in advance,david
Thanks,I did all that before as I have it working on the 2.4.26,and it is working on the 2.6.6 just no GLX but using "nvidia" not "nv" get the splash screen,should I reemerge nvidia-glx after I ran sh NVIDIA-Linux etc. etc. 6106.run.On slackware that installs everything,when I ran emerge nvidia-glx befor it installed a older driver,there is a ton of posts about this on the gentoo site,to get as far as I have I disabled support for usb2.0 and some other stuff,some kind of a bug,at least I got it to work with the 2.6.6 but the nv driver is as good as this one without 3d support,thanks again david
I'm using kernel 2.6.7-gentoo-r11 and nvidia driver 1.0.4496-r3 with no problems, at least not that I can tell anyway.
I did read something about it on Gentoo forums when I upgraded. I remember I had to unmask the driver for a while. It has since been unmasked by default, on the Gentoo developer side. It should work. You may want to try the Gentoo IRC and see if they know. There is usually a developer on there.
When I run the command above that you gave, I get this:
Code:
root@smoker /home/dale # glxinfo | grep direct
bash: glxinfo: command not found
root@smoker /home/dale #
I'm not sure, either IRC, search Gentoo forums, or start a thread.
I had to create /etc/portage/package.keywords then I;
# echo "media-video/nvidia-kernel ~x86" >> /etc/portage/package.keywords
# emerge nvidia-kernel then I did the same thing for nvidia-glx and opengl-update and now it works everything is the 6106,again thanks so much for the help
I have the same problem, but in my case installing new drivers (1.0.6111) didn't change anything and still no glx. I have kernel 2.6.7 gentoo-dev-sources. Please help me!
