General Question about vid cards, pci or agp?

Hi all,

I've been trying to set up dual monitors using a dual head pci vid card. My question is, is it easier to use a AGP card or a PCI card when setting up dual monitors. I mean, as far as configuration is concerned? Unfortunately, I do not have an AGP port :(

Just Curious,

Bill

Wont matter as long as you set up xorg of XF86 to use the heads seperately and spread the screen across the two monitors rather then just cloning the image on the one screen. ATI drivers allow for the easiest configuration of this, but the ATI drivers in my personal experience are notourious for being hard to configure for Direct Rendering. Anyways to answer your question it doesnt matter what slot you use, personally my first dual-mon setup was done on an nvidia pci card. Took a lil' googling and tweaking but its not to difficult, once you do it a couple of times you learn to get things more correct.
For pci cards if your looking to upgrade get the Geforce-Fx5200 runs D3 on med settings no problem, and nvidia drivers are really easy to use and setup.

Hi mdkusr,

Thanks for the info, I'll check those cards out on pricewatch. Im running FC4, so once I install the nvidia drivers (after I get the card) will the GUI allow me to set up dual monitors (with spanning desktops) or will I still have to manually edit the xorg.conf file?

Thanks again :)

Hi, mdkusr,

Just got the GeForce FX5200. Do you know where I might find the driver for it? Once again, I'm running Fedora Core 4.

Thanks again :)
