Geforce 3 Ti 200...Anyone found a Fix yet?

Hey.

I've installed the NVIDIA Drivers, latest.
And set the XFree86 config to the right stuff so it SHOULD work, But as most of you know alot of people have been struggling with this. X Doesnt load. So i cant use the Linux Interface, so i have to repair it every time i try, which isnt really that hard, but it's annoying the drivers dont work.

Anyone got any ideas?

Thanks.

Dean.

Well, I think I'd need a little bit more info. PLease post the relevent parts of your /var/log/XFree86.0.log file and your XF86Config-4 file. M/B model, Kernal version, etc.

Mine worked fine fresh from the Mandrake 9.1 install, and updating the nVidia drivers was a breeze.

What do you mean by repair exactly?

JapanFred 08-22-2003 02:30 PM

Repaiur meaning it wouldnt boot X properly, it would just go black. So i would have to fix the XFree86 config file before it worked.

Well what exactly do you change to repair it, and why does that settings keep getting changed from a working state to a broken one?

So what did you do? Just run the installer script and edit the XF86Config-4 file like the instructions say?

I have a GF3Ti200, worked no-probs-first-time for me...

Config-4? I dont have Config-4...

Proud 08-22-2003 04:11 PM

No /etc/X86Config-4 ?!
Are you looking while as root?

JapanFred 08-22-2003 04:14 PM

It's not got the -4 after it, just Xfree86...

PsychosisNode 08-22-2003 04:16 PM

/etc/X11/XF86Config-4

Below are snippets from this file on my system (they may not be the same for your setup)

In this section, Load "DRI" and Load "GLcore" should be disabled (removed or commented out)

Section "Module"
Load "dbe" # Double-Buffering Extension
Load "v4l" # Video for Linux
Load "extmod"
Load "type1"
Load "freetype"
Load "glx" # 3D layer
EndSection

...and in this section, Driver should be changed from "nv" to "nvidia".

Section "Device"
Identifier "device1"
VendorName "nVidia Corporation"
BoardName "NVIDIA GeForce3 (generic)"
Driver "nvidia"
Option "DPMS"
EndSection

X won't start until these changes are made.

some distros use the -4 someone dont, theres no differnce, if there is a -4 x will default to that one

JapanFred 08-22-2003 04:28 PM

Im just installing Xfree84 4, because 3 doesnt support my card :( properly, according to their site.

And 4 does, so i'm installing it now.

Proud 08-22-2003 04:31 PM

I wonder why you chose not to install it originally. It's the default option iirc.

faheyd 08-22-2003 11:44 PM

And that's exactly why I don't respond anymore until I know what hardware, what kernel, what distro. It's really hard to help someone until you know all that. I've already asked for specific info from him, so that we may help him, but as of yet, we're all spinning our wheels until we know what his 'environment' is.
