Gateway Profile 1.8 --- Modem Troubles

Hi all. Thanks for the prompt replies to my previous concerns, however I have a new problem that I've been unable to conquer. I recently inherited a Gateway Profile system. Under windows the modem "just works", and as far as I can tell, it has an "Actiontec LT" modem in it. Under _any_ version of linux I can't get it to work. Knoppix 4, Ubuntu (5.1.0) and Slackware 10.1 just don't see it. I downloaded the Ltmodem drivers, but they're unable to get anything working - I get errors when loading lt_serial (it looks like its unable to find the modem). The results of the packaged scanmodem tool come up blank. Here's what I've got:

Distro: Slackware 10.1, default kernel

Results of lspci:

00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corp. 82810E DC-133 GMCH [Graphics Memory Controller Hub] (rev 03)

00:1f.1 IDE interface: Intel Corp. 82801AA IDE (rev 02)
00:1f.2 USB Controller: Intel Corp. 82801AA USB (rev 02)
00:1f.3 SMBus: Intel Corp. 82801AA SMBus (rev 02)
01:04.0 Ethernet controller: 3Com Corporation 3c905C-TX/TX-M [Tornado] (rev 78)

01:05.1 CardBus bridge: Texas Instruments PCI1225 (rev 01)
01:0b.0 Multimedia audio controller: Yamaha Corporation YMF-744B [DS-1S Audio Controller] (rev 02)
******************************************************

Any other info that will help, I'll gladly provide - I'm currently online with that box (via highspeed) and am eager to solve this.

Thanks again for all your help

Okay, I admit this is a bit of a stumper. I'm kinda curious if the modem is part of the NIC, as some other laptops I've seen. Any and all help would be great.

Well, good news and bad news. The good news I got a modem to work in this device, I installed a pcmcia XJ5560 3com/USR modem and it works great. The bad news, either the internal modem is non-existant and is only a placeholder plug _or_ the modem failed. That's why it never worked. So if it did exist the previous drivers should have made it work.

Just thought I'd post and let others know if they run into the same problems.
