Gateway 7326 GZ Laptop Wireless/Sound Pain

Hi all,

I wish I were a programmer so I could create a driver to make all devices work under Linux, until then I have to report to you my pain in trying to configure the followings under these distribution : UBUNTU-Breezy Badger 5.10 ; Fedora Core 4 ; Mandriva 2006;

my Wireless integrated card (not working on all three flavors)
01:09.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4306 802.11b/g Wireless LAN Controller (rev 03)

my Sound card (not working on all three flavors)
(00:1f.5 Multimedia audio controller: Intel Corporation 82801DB/DBL/DBM (ICH4/ICH 4-L/ICH4-M) AC'97 Audio Controller (rev 03)

my Modem (Not Working under Mandriva 2006)
00:1f.6 Modem: Intel Corporation 82801DB/DBL/DBM (ICH4/ICH4-L/ICH4-M) AC'97 Mode m Controller (rev 03)

I followed all instructions regarding installing 'Ndiswrapper' ...etc. for a whole week on all the distributions not a chance.

I still want to quit windows but I also want to have wireless access and Sound. I turned to you today to tell me what else to do. In the meantime I am doing a dual boot with Windows XP and Mandriva 2006.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions and have a blessed day !!!

Hello Im running Ubuntu on a gateway as well and I found that gateway had the brilliant idea of connecting the Mic and the Speaker in the laptop the other way around with the sound card or something like that. Phisicly I guess its a bit complicated but all in all I got the sound card to work on Ubuntu by running the command

alsamixer

next a bunch of sound levels appear, go to the far righ side with the arrow keys until you find one that says external while selected click on m to mute it. Now just click ESC to quit the application and try it out.

Still with that I got both the microphone and sound working.

Thats how I got it fixed in ubuntu but Im guessing it should also work for the other flavors.

As for the Wireless I still havnt gotten it up but Im working on it, thats how I found your post cause Im struggling with the same card you are struggling with although Im running ubuntu on a Gateway M520, Im also running Fedora Core 4 but its on a beautifull Lenovo. Ill post here if I find a solution to the card.

By muting that external line that has solved my sound problem using Mandriva. I'll be delighted to have the same cure for my wireless adapter.

Thanks again.

Thumbs up this works out for mandriva 2009.0 too Thanks Fice

I recently installed Mandriva 2009 on a gateway 3522 and I had this same sound problem, in this version of mandriva the problem was that Kmix does not show by default all the controls, and the one labeled "external amplifier" is hidden, what I did was go to settings and then select "configure channels" and enabled the channel labeled "external amplifier" and ok, after that check the mute option for that channel and Voilá, i have sound.

Thanks Fice.
