Garbage Printout from HP Officejet T65 using CUPS

I just hooked up an HP Officejet T65 to my server (running Ubuntu 6.06.1 LTS Server with Kernel 2.6.15-23-386) on the server's only parallel port. I've gotten it to queue and print, but the ensuing printout it garbage. For example, I print a simple text file and it prints one page with nothing but a capital E on it and another page with garbled lines. I am using CUPS with the "HP OfficeJet T65 Foomatic/hpijs" driver. I have attempted to use http://localhost:631 to troubleshoot, but since it is a server with no GUI I am limited to text-based browsers. When asked to login as root it rejects my root password. I am not extremely familiar with CUPS, so maybe I am missing something obvious. Any help would be appreciated.
