GA-8KNXP Sound

First things first, I'm a noob. Now that that's out of the way.

I've just begun to attempt to get my Gigabyte GA-8KNXP up and running on RH9. Everything works flawlessly in W... from a Raid 0 with 2 WD Raptors on the ICH5R, not yet supported in any Linux I think. My Linux is on IDE 0. So far sound is the only thing not working.

OK following Finegan's advice here goes.

I think that is all that aplies to the audio?

What I have done is to;
download ALSA 0.9.6 driver, lib, tools, utils and oss compatibility; unzip them with RH's GUI;
driver, lib and utils were ./configure, make, make install from the terminal.

When I use the command alsamixer as root I get;
alsamixer: function snd_ctl_open failed for default: No such file or directory

I have also enabled the sound options in Preferences>Sound.

Hardware Browser shows;
82801EB AC'97 Audio

pre-remove sound-slot-0 /bin/aumix-minimal -f /etc/.aumixrc -S >/dev/null 2>&1 || :

I'm sure the missed step is obvious to someone.

So after wondering why sndconfig wouldn't work and finding that my RH installation had left it out. I installed it then ran it. It identifies the expected device and then says that it is not currently supported. Does that mean that the ALSA driver does not support it or is it the Kernel?

The sound works in Severn.

And i have some noize at some channels when i umute them.
Also I can only play from one source.
