Question FSCK on root

I have been having problems with my HP PSC1315 . I suspect some files maybe corrupt . I have already done a RPM -Va .
Do I need to do a fsck on my root which is on /dev/hda7? or is this automatic at start-up ?

What about -F option of shutdown ?
