Frontier DSL with SpeedStream DSL Modem

I am having a problem. I am not sure what it is yet. I am at a friends place and I want to plug into their DSL modem. It's a SpeedStream DSL modem on frontier DSL. THe other two computers work but when i plug mine in it doesn't. I switched one of my friends computers to Mandrake and that works fine. So i don't know if it is somehting I have to do in Mandrake 10.0 Official or if it is something to do with the DSL modem. I have had DSL hooked up to my computer before and it worked fine but it was with a westell DSL modem and through Verizon. Anyone have DSL with Frontier that could help me? Or a SpeedStream DSL modem? Thanks

this could just be a very general parameter problem.
did you set the IP address for you computer?
the modem from version might have dhcp enabled, so you don't have to do anything.
but for the speed stream dsl modem, you might have to configure it.
there is much of doc for mandrake at the official site.
give it a ip and tell the gateway or the ip addr of the modem.
then youshould be able to get online now.

Thanks. I am back home now but the next time a bring my computer up there I will give this a try. I did use Damn Smal Linux and it connected fine. So it was something I needed to do. I wanted to update Mandrake using DSL. With Dial up the update takes a long time unless I break it up over several days
