Frequent Replying members, Read me!
 

Hey all,

The other day I had an all day reply festival on LQ. It was like the old days, when you could reasonably tackle every current problem that was out there. Mainly this was because of three reasons:

1) It was the lightest day of the week, Sunday.

2) There were so many really good replies already out there from our knowledgeable and supportive Gurus, Addicts, and other Regularly replying members. You know who you are, thank you guys!

3) I was only hitting Hardware.

We've got a small problem brewing... and for a while I thought it was the fact that new users were outstripping the gurus, but then yesterday I had a few threads get about three to four additional helpful replies after my own. This is not something I discourage, maybe the ninja before you missed something in their suggestion, maybe you've got the perfect link to a quickie how-to, rock on... However, a lot of effort is getting duplicated, and before you start cruising already replied to threads, click on this guy:

He's right below the "New Thread" button. I humbly ask you to cruise the zero replies more often, even if you have no idea how to tackle their problem, an educated guess and some googling is better then their thread slipping off to the neverland of page five or six.

Second item, much smaller:

Does anyone know ACPI really really really well?

Alot of the more recent laptop questions are just acpi issues on machines that no longer conform to the APM standard so devices like the pcmcia bridge aren't even getting an IRQ right. Most of the next few releases of the big five distros will take care of this, SuSe has luckily championed the way.

I'm looking for someone that would be willing to write a distro agnostic LinuxAnswer to tackle the ins and outs of this mess that a newbie could understand, down to the ugliness of compiling a 2.4.23-preX kernel if need be. I would do it, but frankly, I haven't got any hardware that uses acpi aside from my main desktop. This is price I pay for my Sparc, Indy, Mac and $BSD fascination as of late.
