Nowadays most sound cards and ethernet cards which are on board are well supported
The cpu will be compatible of course.

I know my post doesn't help you but i can't give you any specific information unless you mention which model is that
"foxconn motherboard" doesn't help me.

Better than model number would be checking compenent by component.

Processor: All will be Compatible
Chipset: All will be Compatible
USB Controller: Pretty much will be, modern ones, all should be

HD Controller: ?
Onboard Audio: ?
Onboard Lan: ?
Onboard Video: ?
Other components(Like wifi, 1394, other possible extensions): ?

Yes
That is why i wanted the model number. So that i can browse the foxconn website and see which chipsets does the motherboard use
for each component (audio etc)

I had a hard time finding that manufacturer's website, then could
not find the products. I finally got it from a review on Overclocker's.

[opinion]
We aren't using those motherboards in China very much. There
are some brands made in China, but they're generally considered
of cheap quality. I'd check this one very thoroughly before I made
the decision to purchase it. For example, in August I was sold an
ASRock mobo, as sort of a trial. It didn't have the same quality as
the Asus boards I usually use, so I exchanged it.
[/opinion]

Now, can you give us the specific board from this link ?
If so, I'll help you with your hardware questions, but there are at
least 3 different SiS661FX chipset boards.

From what it says here (http://www.foxconnchannel.com/produc...me=661FX4MR-ES)
this is a socket-478 pentium4 motherboard so it is rather old. My first guess is that everything is well supported.

It doesn't mention many things in the website, so i will try to explain whatever i can.

Processor+Chipset+Memory => Of course it is supported

Graphics => All graphics cards are supported in 2d mode by the X server and some are supported in 3d mode
Generally Nvidia cards have better drivers (and easier to install)

Audio (Integrated Realtek AC97) => Supported

LAN (It doesn't mention what chipset it uses) => i guess it is supported since almost any integrated ethernet card is
but i can't say for sure. The fact that this isn't cutting_edge_just_has_been_released_to_the_selves motherboard strongly
suggests that it is supported.

USB => almost every usb controller complies with UHCI/OHCI (for 1.1) and EHCI (for 2.0) so it is supported

I don't know what else component are you interested in

FWIW, Foxconn makes Intel's motherboards (as well as any other "manufacturers"' motherboards) and their own brand of motherboard is quite reliable. Secondly: providing the chipset is well-supported (e.g., you don't have the bleeding-edge Intel 945 chipsets) Linux will run very well on Foxconn motherboards.

aya_catseye,

You really should have provided us w/ a link to the mobo in your OP. That would have saved imitheos the trouble of doing your leg(finger?)work for you. It also would have forced you to provide the model # from the beginning, & thus avoided cluttering this thread w/ the counter questions. As a fringe benefit to you, it would have gotten your Q answered faster.

BTW, Ubuntu has a "Live CD" version, why didn't you just try booting that & seeing what happened?
