Found a Compaq iPAQ H3800 and want to put linux on it.... and it looks like the only way is going to have to be the obvious choice. Anyone have an idea how I can possibly pull this off? I am a linux user so i know enough, but not a power user. Anyone with the patience want to help me give this a shot??

chaoticanarchyX, Linux from Scratch is a distro, or, more properly, a book on how to build a Linux system from the bottom up.

As for your Compaq, it would help immensely to know the specs of the computer.

That's an ancient ARM processor with a proprietary (I believe) bootloader...

Here's instructions, but they're OLD and so may not actually be relevant, or possibly even usable anymore as links have expired and the distro it used probably doesn't exist anymore (I've never personally heard of it). Also they're in word format and I couldn't find a .html version.

10 bucks at a savers with cradle and gps unit with single slot sleeve.....good enough as a GPS alone i would hope. I hve looked at all the old sites (with many dead links) and figured with todays modern linux and this distro building thread I might be able to resurrect something old to new. To answer you snowpine I used to use Ubuntu but Ive long since switched to Debian/XFCE. Anyone got even the slightest of nibble where to turn?
