Format Brand New Harddrive

Hello there:
I am running suse 9.0 pro anf I just bought a 80gb samsung hardrive
Yast2 recognized it and asked me if I wanted to configure it, but it only opened the partition module and I could not format the hard drive, can I do it with fdsik?
i tried fdisk /dev/hdac and /dev/hdad but got nothin, hda and hdb are other hard drives.
Any idea?

Try fdisk /dev/hdc or /dev/hdd. Those are the drives on the secondary IDE controller.

fdisk -l
will list the drives and partitions

fdisk is the utility to partition the drive. Once that is complete you need to format the newly created partitions. See man pages for mkfs.
