Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

Forcing 'umount' or killing disk access

How can I force linux to stop accessing an external fw hard disk when my backup procedure to pull data from the disk hangs up on bad sectors?

Or, how can I can I force an unmount of the device?

umount -f does not work.

Thanks
Scott

I've been able to force SMB mounted filesystems to unmount with 'umount -l' (lazy unmount).

--- rod.
