Firewire support Mandrake 9.1

I am running Mandrake 9.1 dual booting with Windows 98SE. I have, so far, vowed not to give B*ll G*t*s any more of my hard-earned.

However I am thinking of getting a Digital Camcorder. As Win98 does not support firewire, I will need to use Linux to load movies onto my computer, from where I will make VCDs. I have seen a site selling a PCI card which adds 2xIEEE1394 and 2xUSB2 ports for under 50 pounds.

My question is this: does anyone have experience in setting up such a system? I understand that Mandrake 9.1 has firewire support built in, but some people have had problems actually getting it to work.

Is it worth getting the USB2.0 ports, or getting a cheaper card without them? I already have 6xUSB1.1 ports on my system, but can Linux cope with USB2.0?

Dunno about the firewire but heard people using usb 2.0, googled for a
second: http://www.linux-usb.org/usb2.html, seems to work fine!

Cheers, Klod
