firewire or usb 2.0 for external hdd

I want to replace my laptop drive with something faster. I plan on buying an external 2.5" hdd enclosure to put my old 4200 rpm drive in. Would it be better for me to use Firewire or USB 2.0 for this type of application? Is one better supported (by linux) than the other?

I have 2 IBM drive enclosures, both with 2.5"
hard drives. They work fine. USB 2.0 transfers
at 480Mbits/s and firewire at 400Mbits/s...
