Firewire issues
Hello folks, wondering if you could lend me a hand with this...
I have a two of LaCie d2 BiggerDisk (1 TeraByte each), both have FireWire 400, 800 and USB 2interfaces. I'm running Fedora Core 2 with a 2.6.6-1.435 kernel on a ShuttleX: 2.40GHz PIV processor, 512 MB RAM on a FB75 motherboard. The hotplug feature works fine, both drivers are recognized...or at least seems to... The point is that...using the firewire interface i get this message: ###################################################### ieee1394: Node 0-00:1023: Max speed [S400] - Max payload [2048] Vendor: LaCie Model: BiggerDisk G931 Rev: 922 Type: Direct-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 06 SCSI device sdb: 1953588673 512-byte hdwr sectors (1000237 MB) sdb: asking for cache data failed sdb: assuming drive cache: write through sdb:SCSI error : <2 0 0 0> return code = 0x8000002 Current sdb: sense key Aborted Command Additional sense: Logical block address out of range end_request: I/O error, dev sdb, sector 1953588672 Buffer I/O error on device sdb, logical block 1953588672 SCSI error : <2 0 0 0> return code = 0x8000002 Current sdb: sense key Aborted Command Additional sense: Logical block address out of range end_request: I/O error, dev sdb, sector 1953588672 Buffer I/O error on device sdb, logical block 1953588672 sdb1 Attached scsi disk sdb at scsi2, channel 0, id 0, lun 0 Attached scsi generic sg1 at scsi2, channel 0, id 0, lun 0, type 0 ###################################################### And when I try the USB2 interface i get this other message: ###################################################### updfstab: Using deprecated /dev/sg mechanism instead of SG_IO on the actual device updfstab: Using deprecated /dev/sg mechanism instead of SG_IO on the actual device usb 3-2: new full speed USB device using address 4 usb 3-2: device not accepting address 4, error -71 usb 3-2: new full speed USB device using address 5 usb 3-2: device not accepting address 5, error -71 usb 3-2: new full speed USB device using address 6 usb 3-2: device not accepting address 6, error -71 usb 3-2: new full speed USB device using address 7 usb 3-2: device not accepting address 7, error -71 usb 1-4: new high speed USB device using address 3 updfstab: Using deprecated /dev/sg mechanism instead of SG_IO on the actual device updfstab: Using deprecated /dev/sg mechanism instead of SG_IO on the actual device scsi4 : SCSI emulation for USB Mass Storage devices Vendor: LaCie Model: BiggerDisk G931 Rev: 922 Type: Direct-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 02 SCSI device sdc: 1953588673 512-byte hdwr sectors (1000237 MB) sdc: assuming drive cache: write through sdc:SCSI error : <4 0 0 0> return code = 0x8000002 Current sdc: sense key Aborted Command end_request: I/O error, dev sdc, sector 1953588672 Buffer I/O error on device sdc, logical block 1953588672 SCSI error : <4 0 0 0> return code = 0x8000002 Current sdc: sense key Aborted Command end_request: I/O error, dev sdc, sector 1953588672 Buffer I/O error on device sdc, logical block 1953588672 sdc1 Attached scsi disk sdc at scsi4, channel 0, id 0, lun 0 Attached scsi generic sg2 at scsi4, channel 0, id 0, lun 0, type 0 USB Mass Storage device found at 3 ####################################################### Also, the list of loaded modules is: ####################################################### Module Size Used by nfs 143936 0 usb_storage 53576 1 sbp2 18184 1 ohci1394 26392 0 ieee1394 278964 2 sbp2,ohci1394 nfsd 159488 9 exportfs 4224 1 nfsd lockd 47816 3 nfs, nfsd ipv6 184672 12 parport_pc 19392 1 lp 8236 0 parport 29640 2 parport_pc,lp autofs4 12932 2 rfcomm 27292 0 l2cap 16132 5 rfcomm bluetooth 33508 4 rfcomm,l2cap sunrpc 109924 20 nfs, nfsd, lockd e100 25348 0 mii 3584 1 e100 ipt_REJECT 4736 1 ipt_state 1536 4 ip_conntrack 24968 1 ipt_state iptable_filter 2176 1 ip_tables 13568 3 ipt_REJECT,ipt_state,iptable_filter floppy 47440 0 sg 27680 0 microcode 4768 0 dm_mod 32800 0 joydev 6976 0 uhci_hcd 24472 0 ehci_hcd 22916 0 button 4632 0 battery 6924 0 asus_acpi 8984 0 ac 3340 0 ata_piix 5380 3 libata 29188 1 ata_piix sd_mod 16384 8 scsi_mod 91984 5 usb_storage,sbp2,sg,libata,sd_mod ####################################################### Is this something bad? Even when I get these messages, I'm able to mount the disk and copy, moving, delete data in it....but although these operations seem to work... I don't like the fact that I'm still getting some error messages at detection time. Sorry for such a big post...I tried to type as much info (usefull) as I could. Thx in advance! PD1: due to other issues, downgrading the kernel is not a possible solution. PD2: I tried looking for info on the LaCie website...but they only provide support for Windows and MacOS :P |
What PCI card are you using, and did it set itself up?
I'm not asking because I can help, but because I'd like to buy a Big Disk (and the adapter) this week. I'm running Fedora Core 1 with an Asus MB that has no Firewire. |
There's no PCI card. The Firewire and USB2.0 interfaces came with the motherboard.
