fingerprint sensor with fprint-demo

... although i am a total newbie i've been lucky so far and Ubuntu 7.10 gutsy is running wonderful on my laptop LG R500. After the initial install i am now tweaking for my webcam and fingerprint reader.

fprint-demo has installed OK.
The system recognizes the AES 1610 sensor (hardware)
I've read up a lot on the issue and have followed expert suggestions, which helped me install the program OK.
I have also found that the error I mention below i have found on the net elsewhere but with no answer from anyone at all. However, why i am posting this is that when i boot there is a hopeful message, that the program will work ...
After installing the apt-get line with NO errors
i used command line:
gedit /etc/pam.d/common-auth and entered
to have the result:
auth required pam_unix.so nullok_secure
auth sufficient pam_fprint.so

entering the command to pick up sensing i get the following message:
Found device claimed by AuthenTec ASE1610 driver.
aes: error [ev init] could not claim interface 0
fp: error [fp_dev_open] device initialisation failed, driver aes=1610
Could not open device.

Upon boot up:
Could not locate any suitable fingerprints matched with available hardware.
...in other words it just needed the finger imprint to allow it to work the hardware.
i would dearly appreciate any insight into what the error message could mean?? i am not versatile enough to look into the files [ev init] and [fp_dev_open]

thanks dearly for any input to get me one step further on in this issue.

I have research wiki and madman2k - both had valuable input information.
