Finding all my hardware

Hi there!!!

I've a simple question. I'm trying to install Debian Potato in an older machine I have, but I'm having a really hard time finding and installing all my hardware. This machine had all it's hardware correctly identified and installed by Slackware 9.0 and 9.1 (hotplug) as well as Redhat 7.3, 8.0 and 9.0 (kudzu).
What would be the best way to get all the info and modules to my hardware to use these info with Debian?

I did a lsmod (with Slack 9.0 on it) and it comes a list of modules running and/or installed. Would that be all that I need? What about booting with Knoppix and let it identify my hardware, then use these info with Debian?.

Any ideas about getting accurate hardware specifications and installation would be lovely.

Thanks a lot in advance!

P.S: I know I could make a Knoppix hardrive install, but I really want Debian so I can customize from grounds up.

P.S2: This is an older machine that, with exception of the sound card (Zoltrix) the rest is inbuilt, so I most likely could not find the hardware specifications myself.... Note, I could not even install the sound card under Debian knowing what it was :).

start with
lspci; <- lists the devices on the pci bus
dmesg; <- kernel boot messsages

Thanks mate :)

Wow, the kernel boot returns a large message :). I will print it out, and see if I can get this baby working with Debian!

cheers!
