file system just gone?!?! rh9, 200gb, ata

ok i built my linux server few monts back and didnt have any ram so i chopped some out of mine as a temp solution

so i got some ram and a new gc for it (the other gc was screwed) and put it all in, the server booted fine after the upgrade, dected the ram, setup the gc then while i was using the server (it acts as a file system)

my transfers stopped, went to look at the server and it completely locked up, had to reset it

it booted back up and worked but crashed again now it doesnt mount the drive at all

i get this error
Quote:

mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/hda5,
or too many mounted file systems
ive checked it for badblocks, there are none,

whats a bad option?

i looked in disk manager and there are no signs of the file system (which should be ext3)

so i assume the partition screwed up, any way to recover this or fix it? or do i need to recreate the partition on the server?

please help, im crying here got alot of important data on that drive

thanks
adam

anyone?

Not to ask a really bonehead question, but what are you referring to when you say "gc" - graphics card? In any event, adding more RAM to a box shouldn't affect the hard drives, obviously.

The first questions I'd ask would be what is the output from running
Code:

fdisk -l
and what are the contents of fstab? -- J.W.

Hmm...i would try booting from a liveCD such as Knoppix, or anything that can read linux partitions, and see if it can be read there. That's usually the first thing I do when important data might be lost, just make sure it's there. So give that a shot and tell us what happens! Also, as J.W. said, please tell us the output of fdisk -l and cat /etc/fstab. Good luck!
