Hi, so i got my HD knoppix online, that was my first problem. Now i want to play a cd. I am getting this error. When i click on the cdrom icon on desktop it comes up: Unable to run the command specified. The file or Folder File:///mnt/cdrom does not exist. What does this mean?
ya i have been looking around a few places and i think that my cdrom is not ''mounted'' Can u explain how to mount my cdrom, or point me in the right direction? thanks
Login as root or if you are logged in as user then open a console and type: # su
you will be asked for the root password
Then type this:
# mount /dev/cdrom
or
# mount /mnt/cdrom
Usually when you are logged in as root and you click on the CD-ROM icon it get mounted while doing this as user you have to change the user's permissions first. At least, that happenes with me on Slackware.
root@linux:/home/jake# mount /dev/cdrom
mount: No medium found
thats what i get... when i click the cdrom icon on the desktop i hear the cd spin up.. so im assuming it sees it? thanks in advance
I think that you get mount: No medium found when you don't have the disk in the drive. Have you tried mount /mnt/cdrom?
When I click on the cdrom icon I hear the cd and the window with the cd's contents appears.
root@linux:/home/jake# mount /mnt/cdrom
mount: can't find /mnt/cdrom in /etc/fstab or /etc/mtab
root@linux:/home/jake# mount /mnt/cdrom
mount: can't find /mnt/cdrom in /etc/fstab or /etc/mtab
root@linux:/home/jake#
this is after putting a cd in. i hear it spinning up but nothing comes after.
root@linux:/home/jake# mount /dev/cdrom
mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/cdrom,
missing codepage or other error
In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try
dmesg | tail or so
it says i have the directory, when i try to make it, it already exists. thanks again
