fglrx performance, radeon 9600xt, 3.2.8

hey
I just got a 9600XT and I can install the fglrx driver fine (I have a kt400 chipset so i had to play with it a bit)... anways I am getting over 3000 fps in glxgears and my resloution is 1280x1024. games like gltron, enemy territory work fine. But, some heavier graphic games such as america's army, call of duty are very very very slow... unplayable.
My questions are:
1. is there something i need to configure in fglrxconfig to make these work?
2. when i run fglrx_glx_gears (or whatever it is called i can't rememeber... the ati glxgears) it says fbconfig not found.
3. xawtv will start with a black screen, then when i press a key, it will work properly except the screen is not centered.. i have to move the mouse to the edges of the screen to center the tv picture (worked with the old 7500 radeon).

anyways, just wondering if anyone else is getting good performance in games such as a.a. or unreal tournament 2003.
dma is turned for the hard drives, and opengl seems like it is working fine.

specs:
fedora core 1
radeon 9600xt
athlon 2500
asus kt-400
radeon 3.2.8 drivers

thanks!
