fedora unable to 'see' swann opti viewcam

hi folks,
im running fedora core v1.

im having problems getting my swann opti-webcam working(ive only recently moved from windows), got all my other stuff going , e.g. digital cam ,printers etc.

when i use the hardware browser the system recognises i have a usb camera attached but states "no driver", having read several items on swann cameras the suggestion is i should v4l installed( i have) also ov511(which should be in my kernel with this level of fedora i believe)

ive also tried hotplug, which runs without errors but does not rectify the problem.

perhaps this camera will never work, but as ive inherited it from my windows system it would be nice not to have to buy a new one

any help would be greatly appreciated

thanks

I would be surprised if the ov511 driver was built into the kernel, so you could just try 'modprobe ov511' or just 'lsmod' to see if the module is loaded.

With 2.4 kernels I had to load the module manually, but now with 2.6.3 I just plug the camera into the USB port and it sets up automatically. This is with a very cheap and low-quality Swann webcam.
