Question Fedora Linux with external modem problem

I apologise for my earlier fatalistic post. I was VERY tired.

OK I've gone out and bought an external modem to get online with fedora.

It's a PCLine external 56k usb modem. But fedora still wont detect it. It did pick it up the the hardware browser though. It says it a coextant modem or something. Do I need a driver or something?

I'm really desperate to get this thing online.

Turns out that this external modem is also a winmodem. Even though the linux modem faqs assured me that external modems are all hard modems.

50 well spent. And PCline doesn't even have a website. they're just a dud name a scam corperation is hiding behind.

So I guess I'll change this question to

Does anyone know of any modems that actually work under linux?
