Fedora Freezes on Server - Possible Hardware Issue

HI,

We had a server runnign Fedora Core 4,and it randomly froze.Sometime it will run for a couple of hours, other times for 20 minutes. It just hangs, with no responce. We fetched the server from site, and i completely reinstalled it with Fedora Core 6.The same thing is happening,it freezes every now and then.

I am thinking it might be a hardware issue, because a similiar machine is running no problem.

What logs, apps can i use to try and see why it is freezing?Looking at /var/log/messages does not help me at all. There's no error messages.

Thanks

Download and burn a copy of memtest86 to a CD. Then boot from it. It will most likely take a good long time, but it is very through.

However, if it locks up during the test, I recommend checking your system BIOS and see if there is a check for the CPU and system temp. Check your processor to see if its overheating. Also check the CPU and power supply fans to make sure they are functioning.

Hi,

I downloaded memtest and i let it tun for 3 days!No errors found. So i thought it must be hard drive issue then?I took out the two harddrives(running software raid),and put them in another server, and its running fine,so somewhere between the hardrive ans the other hardware in the one server there must be a problem.Any other suggestions as to what this may be?

Thanks

It could be your power supply is on its way out. As they age they cannot put out as much power. You may have been just able to supply the load when it was new but as it has aged you may be over the capacity line.
