Hello,
I've been using Fedora Core 3 as my primary workstation for a while now, probably since around the time it came out. Ever since then, I've had an intermittent problem with the mouse disconnecting/completely not responding while I'm in the middle of something--- but usually while my finger is on the keyboard, holding a key down (like Ctrl-clicking, etc). Keyboard is PS/2 though!
Unplugging it and plugging it back in allows it to resume.
This does not happen all the time, and has been easy enough to ignore. I can't reproduce it upon request, but it happens daily.
Both a Microsoft Explorer USB optical mouse and a Logitec USB optical mouse have had this problem. System is Fedora Core 3, kernel 2.6.11-1.14_FC3. lsusb reports: Bus 005 Device 004: ID 046d:c016 Logitech, Inc.
Hardware is a Dell Optiplex GX270. This happens using either the front or rear ports on this desktop. Other usb devices- iomega peerless, sandisk cruzer thumbdrive, lexar media thumbdrive, USB2 to RS232 adapter, all work great, too.
Is there any information in /var/log/messages. Need to look for something on the lines of /dev/sda1.
eg. I get these entries on boot up for my USB scanner and pen drive:
Jul 11 18:43:31 falcon kernel: SCSI subsystem initialized

May be irrelevant and USB mice work differently but unless its hardware then there should be some indication as to the problem.
I have problems using USB mice on some Linux distros. It maybe a good idea to have a usb to ps2 converter, so that your mouse is configured as a ps2 mouse on those Linux distros that have problems with usb mice.

The disconnect messages might be me unplugging the mouse after it hangs in order to get it working again, other than that, though, there isn't anything else logged during the mouse freeze timeframe.
