fedora core 1 dont detect my hard drive
 

i try installing fedora core 1 and during installation the hard drive is not found. i try installing it manually but most of the list of hardware is ethernet cards. what can i do

Ok, first find exactly the manu for the hard drive and model. Try to use google to see if there is any drivers for it or source code. If you find a driver for fedora 1, put it on a floppy and you can load the driver during install. I think of the top of my head when it boots up to the first screen I think hit f6, the commad to type is linux dd . It will then ask you if you have disk to load the drivers. At that time put the floppy in, and loaded up. If you cannot find the driver but the source code you need to compile the drivers in FC1 to build the driver. then put it on a disk. If you need more help just reply. I have to find how I did something similiar when setting up hardware raid.

Or get Fedora Core 3. The DVD or 4 CD set are available at http://fedora.redhat.com/download/. FC1 is somewhat older , and is, I believe, not well maintained.

thank u bebennett but my notebook dont have floppy disc and how can i compile the drivers in fc1

If you can't get hands on a new distro . You can do the same thing but burn it to a cd. Same command but you would pop the cd out the install cd when it asks you do you have a driver disk, select the cd rom, and that should work. I would really suggest trying to get your hands on a new distro, FC3 is the latest. FC4 is coming soon. If can't burn cd's I think you buy a pre burn cd for a cheap price.

Grub is a boot loader, it is used to boot different operating systems. I haven't change partitions around after they have had an os installed, only with ntfs partitions. I don't know if there is a applications in linux to dynamically resize linux partitions. If you are installing on a new drive, just manually set up the partitions during install. Set some space for the other system. I think you would have 2 boot partitions, 2 swap partitions and finally two partitions to put the different linux flavors in. You might be able to have to of the os's use the same swap partition and boot, I don't know off the top of my head.
