Unhappy Fedora 8 not recognize dvd rom


hi
i use fedora 8 but my fedora not recognize dvd rom
my dvd rom is pioneer.
when booting my system fedora show message:
ata5:00..................................
what work?
please help me.

See if you have k3b or some other multimedia application installed. If there are no optical drives anywhere ... then there is some problem.

Insert a new dvd in the dvd drive.
Are the LEDs ok ?
In FC8, a dialogue box should happen in KDE.

Post the contents of /etc/fstab here.

when i insert DVD led on but only for second and off
when linux is boot show me message similar:
ata5.00:expection emask 0X0 sact 0X0......
what work?
i shoud use dvd?

That message can be many things.
Is your dvd drive OK? (you can check with a live cd)

Start a terminal

#su

#lshw

(post relevant parts here... you will find your dvd drive there if it has been detected in the first place)

Have you enabled "appropriate" dma for your drives?
Do not go beyond 6

#hdparm -I /dev/hdb
