I am running that exact combination.
Have you got free partitions to put fedora on? Probably an idea to prepare that first. It's enough to get one partition as big as you can spare. The Fedora installation will suggest a split in 2 or 3 more during installation.
Fedora 7 will by default install the Grub boor manager and add an item in the boot list of "Other" for your Win XP partition.
I actually have SATA Raid-0 on my machine and Fedora handled that very well.
What sort of hardware do you have? Graphics, wireless? ATI cards tend to cause more problems then nvidia. Wireless support is improving fast, but might be lacking for some cards still.
EDIT: I prepared my partitions with Partition magic under windows first. The corresponding Linux tools are there, but not as user friendly.
